Books for Kids

A message from Ted Lindenberg, the LWRCF 2023 Humanitarian of the Year, about Books for Kids

Ten years ago, the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch had a goal: to help children read more effectively. We needed to get books into the hands of children so that they could build their own home libraries, and we needed to help children in their schools.

We began with five people. We distributed 300 books to 100 children. Since then, our growth has been unbelievable. We now have 155 people working on our weekly kindergarten program and/or our monthly Read Aloud Program. At the same time, we are distributing about 4,000 books every month and our grand total now is over 150,000 books distributed. The program has helped over 14,000 children in its 10 years.

For both programs, anyone can do it. You don’t have to be a teacher. We provide the training, the lesson plans, question sheets, read aloud books, supplies and books to be distributed to the children. Come and help us help these children. The need has never been greater.
